OpenHub Haiti — Turning 10 Churches into Digital Lifelines

In a country where gang violence now controls roughly 85% of Port-au-Prince — cutting off roads, schools, and institutions from millions — the local church has become one of the last trusted spaces where communities can gather, breathe, and reach for something better.

But even the church is isolated. Most congregations affiliated with the Société Missionnaire Baptiste Emmanuel d’Haïti (SMBEH) have no internet access. Young people who once traveled to the capital for education can no longer safely make that journey. Diaspora professionals eager to teach, mentor, and support their home communities cannot reach them. The knowledge exists — the connection does not.

OpenHub Haiti is our answer.

By equipping 10 SMBEH churches with satellite internet (Starlink), solar power, and digital learning centers, we transform each church from a place of worship alone into a gateway — to education, to mentorship, to economic opportunity, and to the world. Local stewards will be trained and supported to run each hub, making this not a dependency but a launchpad.

This is not a project starting from scratch. The Société Missionnaire Baptiste Emmanuel d’Haïti already has an established network of churches across Haiti — trusted by their communities, led by committed pastors, and rooted in decades of mission work. We are not building the structure. We are turning on the lights.

What Your Gift Makes Possible

A gift of $350 covers one Starlink kit — putting an entire church community online. A gift of $600 funds a full year of satellite internet for one church. A gift of $1,000 equips a learning center with a computer, desk, and power stabilizer. Every dollar raised goes directly to the field — to equipment, to installation, to training, and to the people who will carry this forward.

The Haitian diaspora is ready. Educators, professionals, and church communities in the United States have already expressed the desire to serve — to teach remotely, to mentor youth, to invest in a future for Haiti that is built from within. OpenHub gives them the bridge they have been waiting for.

Join us in turning 10 churches into digital lifelines — and giving an entire generation a door to the world.

Project Phases

1

Equip all 10 churches with Starlink satellite internet (Starlink Residential at $120/month), network routers, and complete solar power systems. This phase brings every church online and off-grid-ready.

  • 10 Starlink kits ($349 each) — $3,490
  • Installation & setup — $1,500
  • Shipping & handling — $1,000
  • Network routers/Wi-Fi boosters — $1,000
  • Starlink subscriptions (12 months × 10 at $120/month) — $14,400
  • Solar power systems ($1,100 each × 10) — $11,000
  • Contingency reserve (5%) — $1,620
2

Set up functional digital learning spaces in each church — computers, projectors, power protection, and training materials. Each center becomes a space for students, youth, and adults to learn and connect.

  • 20 computers/tablets ($500 each) — $10,000
  • 20 desks & chairs ($100 each) — $2,000
  • Networking equipment (switches, cabling × 10) — $1,000
  • Power stabilizers (× 10) — $3,000
  • Printer/scanner combos (× 10) — $1,500
  • LED projectors (× 10) — $3,000
  • Projection screens (× 10) — $1,000
  • Speakers & accessories (× 10) — $1,000
  • Training materials & software (× 10) — $2,000
  • Contingency reserve (5%) — $1,225
3

Deploy facilitators, train local stewards, and launch community programs — digital literacy, diaspora mentorship, youth creative programs, and civic leadership workshops.

  • 2 Lead Trainers × $300/month × 6 months — $3,600
  • 10 Hub Stewards × $100/month × 6 months — $6,000
  • 1 Program Coordinator × $400/month × 6 months — $2,400
  • Curriculum development — $500
  • Printed training materials (× 10) — $800
  • Software & online learning platforms (× 10) — $1,500
  • Youth creative program kits (× 10) — $1,500
  • Community launch events (× 10 × $200) — $2,000
  • Virtual mentorship platform (annual) — $250
  • Contingency reserve (5%) — $928
