Emmanuel International Missions
Gérard, Ouest · 1ère – 6ème
In rural Gérard, this school is often the only structured learning environment within reach of families scattered across the Artibonite countryside.
Ecole Evangélique Emmanuel Wilner Maxy sits in Gérard, a rural commune in the Artibonite where the nearest secondary school is a long and costly trip away. For most families here, the question is not which school to send a child to — it’s whether a child can get to school at all. This school exists to close that gap.
The school was established under the pastoral leadership of the Emmanuel Miami network and carries the name of a Haitian brother whose life shaped the ministry in this region. It serves children from the surrounding countryside, many of whom walk significant distances each morning and depend on the meal the school provides as their primary source of nutrition for the day.
Instruction runs through the primary cycle — from the foundational years through the end of the 6th grade level. Teachers are hired locally. The curriculum follows national standards while integrating the Christian values that anchor the school’s identity in the community. Church and school operate on the same grounds, which means the same families who worship together on Sunday are also showing up for parent meetings and school events through the week.
Enrollment depends on tuition that most families cannot fully cover on their own. Sponsorships and direct support from Emmanuel in Missions make it possible to keep the school open, keep teachers paid, and keep the school from turning away children whose families fall short of the monthly fee.
